In 1934, Robert Harold Swinney, a medical student at Washington University in St. Louis, wrote a series of love letters to his vacationing fiancĂ©, Ruth Josephine Erlanger. While the letters are charming in their own right, it happens that in them Harold makes mention of a number of interesting people and events. The aim of this site—beyond conservation and satisfying familial curiosity—is to extensively, accurately and inclusively annotate the references he makes.
The site is under construction. And you, perhaps, can help! If, having stumbled upon these pages (accidentally, no doubt), you find that you have knowledge, documents or photographs relating to any of the subjects mentioned herein, please add a comment to the relevant letter. Cooks who help fortify this thin stone soup will receive at the least
Many thanks,
